The annual revenues of Uzbekistan’s copper industry top $ 2.5 billion, Umida Karshibaeva, spokeswoman to the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Kombinat (AMMC), announced at a briefing.
She said that over the past 5 years AMMC had significantly increased copper production. If in 2017 109,885 tons of copper were produced, then at present the plant produces 148.5 thousand tons of copper.
After the full implementation of the investment project “Development of the Yoshlik-1 deposit” by 2029, the plant will produce 400 thousand tons of cathode copper, 50 tons of gold, and 270 tons of silver.
Reportedly, 60-70% of the copper produced today as raw materials are exported to foreign countries. The annual revenues of the copper industry in Uzbekistan currently have reached $ 2.5 billion.
“If we increase copper production to 400,000 tons by 2029, this figure could reach $ 7-8 billion,” the statement said.
