Dhaka and Tashkent have huge potential to expand the bilateral relations and trade between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said yesterday.
The two countries also have many common areas on which they can work to boost economic cooperation, he said.
He spoke in a discussion with Uzbek Foreign Minister Kamilov Abdulaziz Khafizovich held in the capital of Uzbekistan.
Khafizovich welcomed Alam, who is now visiting Uzbekistan. It is the first bilateral visit in 18 years.
The state minister briefed Khafizovich about Bangladesh’s efforts for its graduation from the least developed countries category.
He also briefed the Uzbek minister on the development and the actions taken by Bangladesh for the forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar and thanked him for the Uzbek support.
Alam also requested him to resume the Uzbek air flights to Dhaka and open Uzbek mission in Bangladesh.
