At the International Congress Center in Tashkent, as part of the program of the 46th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank, a panel discussion was held on the topic: “Changing the paradigm of economic transformation and expanding opportunities for the socially vulnerable population of Uzbekistan in post-COVID era”.
The discussion was attended by experts from the IDB and its subsidiaries, the leadership of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia, the World Bank, the African Economic Development Bank, representatives of delegations from various states and the media.
During the discussion, the issues of expanding the economic opportunities of the IDB were discussed, various models of poverty reduction, mechanisms for attracting and using financial donors to support socially vulnerable groups of the population, government support and response measures aimed at protecting the private sector from the negative consequences of the pandemic were considered. The investment opportunities of Uzbekistan in the post-view period were discussed separately.
During the discussion, Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sh.Vafayev, answering the question of the moderator, spoke about the work to support entrepreneurs, manufacturers and exporters, which was carried out in Uzbekistan during the period of quarantine restrictions and in the post-period period. It was announced that in order to “reanimate” economic activity, targeted interaction with each enterprise was organized, through which practical support was provided in solving a wide range of issues. Also, detailed information was provided on targeted programs to support entrepreneurship, reduce poverty and increase employment of the population, in particular its socially vulnerable strata.
It was noted that much attention was paid to intensive stimulation of the development and transformation of agriculture, since this area creates ample opportunities for ensuring self-employment of the population.
It was emphasized that significant steps have been taken towards the development of women’s and youth entrepreneurship: large-scale programs are being implemented aimed at providing the population with comprehensive support in creating their own business, through which new jobs are also created.
Also during the discussion, other aspects of interaction between Uzbekistan and the IDB in the field of supporting socially vulnerable groups of the population and the private sector were considered.
