On 8 October, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov held a meeting with the British Ambassador to Uzbekistan Timothy Torlot and the Ambassador of the Region for Climate Change David Moran.
During the negotiations, information was provided that Uzbekistan has set itself the task of bringing the volume of generation based on renewable energy sources to 25% by 2030, of which 5 GW comes from solar energy, 3 GW from wind and 2 GW from hydropower. At the same time, renewable energy projects are implemented using the most advanced international experience.
A. Sultanov noted that the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan is interested in the experience of European countries in the field of regulation of networks when introducing renewable energy sources and the use of storage devices for power compensation. In this regard, the organization of webinars with the participation of British experts in this direction was discussed.
In turn, the foreign side highly appreciated the work being done to develop networks by building new ones and modernizing existing ones, and also supported the work being done to restore electrical networks between neighboring countries.
The parties also held a dialogue on the possibility of participation of the delegation of Uzbekistan in the 26th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP26), which will be held in the UK on 1-12 November 2021.
During the meeting, the current situation of cooperation was analyzed, including a number of presentations to the UK business community of reforms in the energy sector of Uzbekistan held during online conferences last year.
The parties noted the great potential for the development of Uzbek-British energy cooperation, agreements were reached on the further organization of the negotiation process at the level of expert groups.
