Bangladesh has offered Uzbekistan to launch a direct Dhaka-Tashkent flight to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Bangladesh has also requested Uzbekistan to set up its own embassy in Dhaka.
The proposals were made when a four-member Bangladesh delegation led by Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment affairs advisers to the prime minister, met Sardor Umurzakov, deputy prime minister of Uzbekistan, in Tashkent on Monday. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for ICT, was also present.
During the one and a half hours meeting, Sardor Umurzakov also said Bangladesh is a role model of development in the world, acknowledging the South Asian country’s economic progress.
Primarily agreeing to the proposals, the Uzbek deputy prime minister has expressed his eagerness to visit Bangladesh this year.
The prospect of expansion of Islamic tourism was also discussed in the meeting between Salman F Rahman and Sardor Umurzakov.
Uzbekistan said a delegation will visit Bangladesh soon to see what can be done on the basis of joint partnership.
Uzbekistan will also seek the help of Bangladesh’s banking sector to introduce Islamic banking system, the country’s deputy prime minister said.
“We want to work with Bangladesh to learn experience of Islamic banking system,’’ Umurzakov added.
