In an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel, the Minister of Preschool and School Education of Uzbekistan, Ezozhon Karimova, spoke about the president’s instructions to form an environmental culture among the younger generation.
“Instructions were given to develop an environmental culture – not starting from school age, but from childhood, from kindergartens, instilling in children a love for nature, the habit of not throwing away garbage, preserving nature for future generations and passing it on intact, developing the appropriate skills,” she said.
According to her, practical work has already begun in the system of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education. “The programs for natural sciences and subjects of the educational cycle include topics related to ecology and environmental protection,” Karimova noted.
The head of the MDShO reported that by the end of 2025, the “eco-stops” project (special zones, educational and demonstration sites) will be implemented in 250 kindergartens, and special ecological sites will be equipped. The President separately instructed to equip all schools and kindergartens with containers for waste collection.
“The Eco-Schools project will also be implemented in schools that are part of the ministry’s system. The task has been set to implement this project in another 500 schools in the 2025-2026 academic year, and practical work has already begun in this direction,” she said.
Eco-Schools is an international program implemented by Zamin jointly with the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE, Kingdom of Denmark). The goal of the project is to educate an environmentally responsible generation, to involve students in events to raise awareness of sustainable development issues and to improve the environment at school. Today, 258 schools in Uzbekistan are participating in the project, uniting 492 program implementers – school students and more than 10,000 eco-activists across the country.
Khokim of the Almazar district Azizkhon Umarkhonov also announced plans to install new types of containers at social facilities.
“By September, all our schools and kindergartens must be equipped with such modern special containers, and work has already begun to fulfill this order,” said the head of the district administration.
The previously adopted Concept for Improving the Environmental Culture of the Population until 2030 envisaged the formation of environmental culture in 3.3 million kindergarten students. The program plans to create cartoons and animation films on environmental topics, promoting everyday rules of the “green consumption” culture.
