On February 10, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on current work in the field of nuclear energy and priority tasks for the future.
To meet the growing needs of the population and economic sectors in our country, all energy sources are used. In addition to traditional generation capacities, about 4 gigawatts of alternative energy capacities have been commissioned in recent years, which has increased the share of “green” energy to 16 percent.
Over the next five years, it is planned to create additional renewable energy capacity of 25 gigawatts. This will increase the production of “green” energy to 64 billion kilowatt-hours. Overall, the goal is to increase the share of “green” energy in the country’s generation to more than 50 percent by 2030.
The development of digital technologies, electric vehicles, electronics, artificial intelligence, mining and other industries sharply increases the demand for energy. Currently, many countries are looking for ways to switch to new types of energy. Traditional fossil fuels are gradually giving way to renewable sources. Already today, alternative energy accounts for 42 percent of the total global generation.
Nuclear power is optimal for creating long-term energy capacities. Today, 417 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 375 gigawatts are in operation in the world. New nuclear power plants are being built, and many countries have included nuclear power in their development strategies.
Our country, which has its own uranium reserves, also plans to create a long-term energy base. In particular, a project has been developed for the construction of low-power reactors. On December 5, 2024, an international conference on the use of nuclear energy was held in Samarkand.
At the meeting, responsible officials presented information on the work being carried out to develop nuclear energy.
The head of state gave instructions on training specialists for the future station and the industry as a whole, ensuring safety at the level of the International Atomic Energy Agency requirements. It was noted that the introduction of such technologies will increase the competitiveness of the economy and create a favorable basis for long-term growth.
