The 72nd birth anniversary of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, a valiant freedom fighter and the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed at different Bangladesh missions abroad.
Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh, Mumbai, Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra, Australia, Bangladesh Embassy in Tashkent, Bangladeshi Embassy in Seoul, South Korea and the Embassy of Bangladesh in Madrid, Spain observed the birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal with different programme to commemorate the life and works of Sheikh Kamal on the mission premises, according to messages received here today.
Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi today paid homage to valiant freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal.
Sheikh Kamal was assassinated along with Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most members of his families on Aug 15 in 1975.
The 72nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal was observed with due solemnity through holding of discussion and placing wreaths at his portraits at Bangabandhu Corner at the chancery building.
High Commissioner Muhammad Imran led the officers and staff of the mission in laying the wreaths.
He later presided a discussion meeting on the life and work of Sheikh Kamal at the chancery’s Bangabandhu conference hall.
In his speech, Muhammad Imran recalled his memory with Sheikh Kamal and admired him for his exceptional capacity to organize sports, art and music after the 1971 War of Liberation.
He also recalled Sheikh Kamal’s role during the liberation war when he acted as the ADC of Commander-in-chief Gen MAG Osmani.
Muhammad Imran also said that Sheikh Kamal was an idol of modern fulfilled man among the then youth who got all his attributes from his family and these attributes were reflected in his personal, social and
cultural life.
At the meeting a short life sketch of Sheikh Kamal were read out by Mohd Rashedul Amin, Counsellor (Economic), Lieutenant Colonel Md. Kamrul Hasan, Assistant Defence Adviser and Tahsina Nasrin, Second
Secretary.
Selim Md Jahangir, Minister (Consular) at the mission also spoke on the occasion. Md Zakaria Bin Amjad, Minister Second Secretary, conducted the meeting.
A documentary on the life of Capt Sheikh Kamal also screened while a doa-mahfil was offered seeking divine blessing for Sheikh Kamal.
The birth anniversary of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal was commemorated in a befitting manner at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Tashkent.
A documentary film was screened on the life and activities of late Sheikh Kamal at the beginning of the programme.
On this occasion, Ambassador Md Zahangir Alam expressed his deep respect and appreciation for his extraordinary leadership in organizing the great War of Liberation.
He noted that Sheikh Kamal was a good organizer and patroniser of cultural organizations like, Spondon Shilpi Gosthi and Dhaka Theater.
He also noted that through his vision, dedication and ambition, Sheikh Kamal established the country’s first modern sports entity Abahoni Club and thus inspired the country to hoist its drape in the global stage.
Kamal hired the first foreign coach, Irishman William Bill Hurt in order to improve the quality of football in a new emerging country Bangladesh, he added.
Spouse of Ambassador Ummul Fatema, Minister and DCM of Bangladesh Embassy Nripendra Chandra Debnath and Freedom Fighter Engineer Golam Nobi also delivered speech and paid their rich tributes to them departed soul of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal.
Members of Bengali Community, Embassy officials and their family members and local Uzbek staff participated in the programme.
The 72nd birth anniversary of the martyred Captain Sheikh Kamal was celebrated with due dignity at the Bangladesh Sub-High Commission Mumbai today. On this occasion, a special seminar, prayers and munajat were organized at the premises of the Sub-High Commission.
The meeting was held with the participation of officials and employees of the Sub-High Commission in Mumbai and expatriate Bangladeshis.
At the beginning of the program, the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh Md. Lutfar Rahman paid deep tributes to the great organizer of the freedom struggle of Bangladesh and the eldest son of Father of
the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He highlighted various aspects of the colorful and glorious life of the martyred Captain Sheikh Kamal. The Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh, Mumbai also paid homage to Sheikh Kamal.
Marking the day, a special seminar, prayers and munajat were organized at its premises, a press release said.
