On 17 July 2020, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov met with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Thomas Greminger and Chairman of the OSCE Permanent Council Igli Hasani in Vienna.
During the talks, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for further deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE.
At the meeting, Thomas Greminger praised the dynamically developing relations between Uzbekistan and the OSCE. He expressed great satisfaction with the fact that the achievement of a major breakthrough in relations between the OSCE and Uzbekistan happened precisely during his tenure as Secretary General.
According to the Secretary General, large-scale reforms carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev have brought Uzbekistan to a fundamentally new level of political development and open up concrete opportunities for expanding interaction with the OSCE.
In turn, in connection with the termination of the powers of Thomas Greminger as OSCE Secretary General, the Uzbek side expressed special gratitude for his successful work as the head of the Organization, as well as for his personal contribution and merits in the comprehensive development of relations between Uzbekistan and the OSCE.
During the meeting with the Chairman of the OSCE Permanent Council, an exchange of views took place on the current state of affairs in the OSCE in the context of the Albanian chairmanship in the Organization.
The parties paid attention to the issues of further deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE, aimed at supporting the large-scale socio-economic and democratic reforms being carried out in the country.
