President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia headed by Minister of Hajj and Umrah Tawfiq bin Fawzan al-Rabi’a, who is in Uzbekistan on an official visit.
During the meeting, the minister conveyed greetings to the head of state from the King of Saudi Arabia Salman al-Saud and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the country Mohammed al-Saud, and also presented a valuable gift on behalf of the King – a piece of the sacred covering of the Kaaba (kiswa).
This act symbolizes deep respect and recognition of the spiritual connection between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia, and is also a sign of high appreciation for the contribution of the Uzbek people to Islamic culture.
President Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to the leadership of Saudi Arabia for the attention to Uzbek pilgrims and the conditions created for performing religious rites in Mecca and Medina. In 2024, more than 800 thousand citizens of Uzbekistan performed Umrah and 15 thousand – Hajj.
The parties discussed issues of further improving the conditions and quality of services provided to pilgrims from Uzbekistan, as well as ensuring their safety and comfort during their stay in Saudi Arabia.
