The Uzbekistan government is set to take steps to open its embassy in Dhaka, according to a foreign ministry press release.
Uzbek foreign minister Abdulaziz Kamilov asked officials of his ministry to start necessary steps for opening the embassy in Dhaka when foreign minister AK Abdul Momen met Uzbek president Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on Friday.
Momen was in Tashkent to join an international conference on regional connectivity between central and south Asia.
In addition to opening the embassy in Dhaka, Momen also noted the importance of resumption of direct passenger flights between Dhaka and Tashkent to bring bilateral and interregional relations to a new height, said the press release.
President Mirziyoyev assured Momen that the Uzbekistan government would examine the resumption of direct flights.
They also discussed prospects for expanding multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Bangladesh, issues of further expansion of practical interaction, promotion of new cooperation projects of the two countries and further deepening economic cooperation between the two regions.
Momen handed over an invitation letter to the Uzbekistan president from his Bangladesh counterpart Md Abdul Hamid to pay an official visit to Dhaka preferably in December this year.
The Uzbekistan president happily accepted the invitation and said that he would try to visit soon, said that release.
Bangladesh has opened a chancery in Tashkent.
